Chelsea Fisher

Chelsea Fisher uses archaeological approaches to investigate the long-term histories of ancient Maya traditional ecological knowledge and their connection to current environmental justice conflicts faced by Indigenous Maya communities. Fisher has published articles on infield agriculture in Maya cities, the political dynamics of milpa farming, celebrity chefs in Yucatán, and the role of archaeology for supporting sustainable agricultural systems. Since completing her PhD in Anthropology at the University of Michigan in 2019, she has worked as an Assistant Professor in the Environmental Studies Program at Washington and Lee University, located on the traditional lands of the Monacan.
