Jorge Can

Jorge Can, a Yucatecan Maya by descent and resident of San Jose Succotz Village in western Belize, is Archaeological Conservator for the Belize Institute of Archaeology. Jorge began his archaeological career in the early 1990 when he worked with Jaime Awe's Belize Valley Archaeological Reconnaissance (BVAR) Project at Baking Pot and with Richard Leventhal's Xunantunich Archaeological Project. Jorge subsequently joined Awe at the Belize Institute of Archaeology and received training in conservation at Nimli Punit and Lubaantun under the well-known Guatemalan conservator, Rudy Larios. He later served as chief conservator of the Tourism Development Project under the direction of Awe, and together they subsequently conducted conservation projects at all the archaeological sites opened to the public in Belize.
